Caterpillar...

Aunt Pearl brought the boys this awesome caterpillar that she found while she was out on her 4 wheeler.  He is about 4 1/2 - 5 inches long and bigger around than my thumb!  He is gorgeous too!  With orange, yellow and blue spikes.  We did some searching on the web and found out that he will change into the Cecropia Moth.  Which is one of ( if not the) largest moth in North America.

The boys put him in a bucket with limbs and leaves from a Birch, Maple, and Wild Cherry tree.  This morning it started to make it's chrysalis (cocoon) in the Cherry branch!  We'll take pictures as it progresses.  And we're hoping that we'll be able to observe and take pictures when it emerges as a moth next spring!

1st UPDATE

This picture was taken Tuesday night at 9:00.  He has all the leaves pulled together.  And you can see the silky strands real good now.

This was taken at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday morning.  He has completely enclosed himself.
The boys and I really miss seeing the little guy!

2nd UPDATE
Thursday Morning

He is still proving to be interesting!
This morning his silky white chrysalis had turned to a dark brown.
It kind of reminds me of the skin of a kiwi. lol
